HYPOXIX ALTITUDE TRAINING

AJ Fisher, MSc, CSCS, creator of Hypoxix

Whether you are an endurance athlete looking to enhance your competitive edge with increased aerobic capacity or a non-athlete who is looking to decrease body-fat, increase muscle mass, and boost COGNITIVE powers by exercising or RESTING at altitude, we are here to support your goals with New York’s one and only altitude training room.

For several decades, research (and competitions such as the Olympics) have shown that exposing oneself to lower oxygen gives an athlete several advantages. Both resting and sleeping in a Hypoxic environment, in combination with exposing oneself to low oxygen has been shown to increase oxygen carrying capacity, increase strength and muscle mass, and improve performance on multiple levels. The benefits for athletes are VAST and researched. Please visit HERE for a list of the most recent published research on Hypoxic Training and the athlete. The population that is often overlooked with regards to hypoxic training benefits is the GENERAL POPULATION (non-athletes).

The general population is concerned with not only life-span, but health-span, and using movement and nutrition strategies to optimize health and longevity. I have found after more than two decades of training clients that prioritizing using a minimum effective dose strategy for the common antiaging and longevity goals, inclusive of physical and mental optimization, is smart and effective. The strategy minimize the risk of injury, while maximizing results through consistent practice. Hypoxic training for the journal population peaked my interest, highly, and I went deep into years of research, including using breath, work for hypoxia and altitude chambers. Please read a collection of research HERE that highlights the antiaging and longevity potential of hypoxic training.

I first became interested in hypoxic training as a young dancer/personal trainer while getting my graduate in exercise science. The majority of my clientele consisted mostly of general population individuals, who were looking to use their workouts to prevent injury, increase strength, lose body-fat (or keep it off) and optimize anti-aging. After years of in depth research, I completed my masters degree in exercise science with a published white paper on the benefits of hypoxic training, which can be found HERE. The paper mostly focuses on how hypoxic training can benefit the general population. Subsequently, several of my own clients in Manhattan include hypoxic training into their strength and conditioning routines with exquisite results in the area of body-fat loss, strength gain, and cognitive improvements. The HYPOXIX Altitude Studio is born out of the passionate commitment to offer New Yorkers, who live at sea-level, the opportunity to experience the wide array of benefits of hypoxic training, whether you are an athlete or a general population person looking to optimize life!

HERE is a link to my pilot study in partnership with New York Institute of Technology and American Public University, that used my hypercapnic hypoxic breathing method in conjunction with modern intensity, functional movement to enhance fat-loss, waist circumference, resting metabolic rate, and strength.

The Hypoxix Altitude Studio is located just minutes north of the city, within walking distance of the Riverdale metro north stop and also accessible by bus, subway, and car. The space is tranquil with a view of the Hudson River.

The studio is fully equipped with an incline trainer, going up to a 40% incline for mountaineer training, and 12mph for the runners looking to enhance oxygen carrying capacity for a race.

Free weights and exercise bands are also available to kick up the functional strength training as part of your intermittent hypoxic training protocol.

Yoga mats are available for meditation, yoga, Pilates, and calisthenics classes. Please inquire here about teaching a semi private or renting the space with your friends to do a group Altitude session.

A unique bonus in the Hypoxix Altitude Studio is the in-studio luxury murphy bed that can be used for RESTING at altitude either during the day for a rejuvenating and brain/body boosting nap or overnight as your body adapts to altitude while sleeping. PASSIVE HYPOXIA or IHE (Intermittent Hypoxic Exposure) is a common practice that both athletes and general population health-optimizers alike can benefit from.

Consider taking an hour nap altitude on your lunch break to not only feel refreshed, but also boost your brain. Consider taking an hour after work for creative writing or reading or

studying. Performing work in a hypoxic environment has been shown to increase factors in the brain such as BDNF that increase creativity and mental processing. Consider booking multiple nights at altitude for the LIVING HIGH, TRAINING LOW benefits that athletes reap when choosing to live up at 3000 meters above sea level to enhance performance capacity. (please message AJ for dosing based on your goals). Tight on a budget, but would like to experience the optimal dosing at Altitude? Consider bringing a friend or two to have a sleepover at Altitude for all of you to adapt together!
